Spooky Season

Anyone else grow up with Halloween as their favorite holiday? Like, Halloween is better than Christmas? Yea, that’s me. I get the feeling I’m not alone in this….

I start to feel this mood around August… the light changes, the colors change, the earth seems like she’s practicing for her final performance for the season. It’s bittersweet and endearing in the same breath. It’s a joy to be outdoors and in nature more than ever. The nights get cooler and darker more quickly, but the colors are more brilliant. There’s something about the balance of comfort and fear, of warmth and chill, that makes this season so unique.

Beyond the spooky fun and cozy comforts, fall reminds me of something deeper: the beauty of change. The trees let go of their leaves so gracefully, teaching us that release can be beautiful, too. It’s a gentle reminder that endings can be just as lovely as beginnings.

Let me introduce you to “Edward” my cow skull. Twenty five years ago, I picked him up in Mexico. He’s been with me for every move of my life. He’s been on my walls, fireplace mantel, and at times like now, stored in a box. Recently, my friends and I had an idea and pulled Edward from his box for a photoshoot adventure. I knew I wanted to see him again so, we brought him along for a spooky photoshoot.

I am so grateful for these images I was able to create because it’s time to say goodbye to Edward. I am moving yet again and this time, this fall, this season, I want “less” in my life. It’s so perfect that fall is the time for letting go and I felt this would be exactly what I needed to make the change easier.

I haven’t announced nor fully figured out how to tell you about my next season, but I will at least say this, I am so grateful for the years I have had in New Jersey with all of you. So much love (and beautiful hauntings) to you in this season of change.
