A few weeks ago, a fellow photographer reached out to me with a unique photography request. I thought for a bit on how I was going to introduce her family photo session on the blog today. Let's start with a game. In almost every one of these images there's at least two things in common. Can you guess what they are? Go ahead take a peek, I'll wait......... …....... So, what did you come up with? A boy? The same funny-face-making, medium height little guy about 7 years old? Yep that's one of the things, and do you see another? The next one is easy to spot but it's not what you think. It's LOVE. You see, this boy has brought two big families to a place that many people don't ever get to be at in life because being open to this kind of love and respect is rare these days. This is Rylan's family: his mom, stepfather, older brother and sister, his father, stepmother, and his two younger brothers. They all met up with me one evening at Historic Smithville Village NJ when the entire crew was going to be in town for just a short while. (they are military families) Someone was quite the rock star when he got to be in pretty much every photo combination we did! Two mom's, two dad's, two separate families that act like one big family and one really lucky little dude. You can clearly see it in his face, he is quite happy to be surrounded by people who are kind, open, caring, forgiving and gracious. Not too many divorced and then re-married families hang out at photo shoots together and go to dinner afterwards. It has a lot to do with being good on the inside, in our hearts. I give them many kudos for this. Mom and step-mom as well as dad and step-dad want all the best for the children in this tribe. And gosh, I just love the imagery we made that night for Ry and his family. He may only be 7 years old right now, but I gather that these photos are going to be with him forever.
